Working time epoxy resin

Ventilation is the standard method of controlling exposure to airborne vapors of epoxy resins and solvents. Ventilation involves controlling air flow to reduce exposure. Local exhaust ventilation systems capture the vapor at the source and either filter or remove it from the work area. The ventilation system needs to be designed so that vapors, aerosol, and dusts are pulled away from, and not into, the breathing zone of the workers. A constant supply of fresh, noncontaminated air should be available at all times. 

Comparison with Other Latent Accelerators. To illustrate the effectiveness of these quaternary phosphonium salts as accelerators for anhydride cured epoxy resins, a comparison of MTOP-DMP and TBPA with other well-known accelerators is given in Table V. The data were obtained from work done in this laboratory using the same resin systems. To make the comparison valid, the concentration given for each of these materials has been converted from phr to moles/200 g resin . The adhesive properties of epoxy resins coupled with their dielectric behavior have made them attractive to the electronic industry. The evaluation of thermally cured rubber modified epoxy thermosets has been the subject of recent studies (1, 2), which dealt with the dependence of morphology on the curing parameters, e.g., catalyst, cure schedule, time of gelation, etc. This work utilizes one of the new series of photocationic initiators (PCI) developed by Crivello, et al (3) which are presently commercially available. These onium salts initiate the reaction by absorbing the actinic radiation, generating radicals and producing a protonic acid. The radicals can lead to polymerization of olefinic moieties (4) while the acid initiates the polymerization of the epoxy groups (3).

Workers in construction or public works who have severe lesions on the face, hands and feet presenting a short time after starting work should be suspected of having been sensitised to epoxy resin or derivatives. Those patients should be patch tested, not only with the standard series but also with plastics to identify sensitivity to these components.

Working electrodes made of other materials such as the ultratrace graphite electrode (porous graphite structure impregnated with epoxy resin, produced by Metrohm, Switzerland), have much shorter lead-in times. The relatively rapid response of this kind of electrode arises from its semimicro electrode properties [48]. 

An unfilled, clear, low-cost epoxy suitable for the room temperature encapsulation of electronic components. By adjusting the hardener (V-855) and resin ratio, the working time and physical properties can be altered.
