Wolfram forms compounds in which it has oxidation number +6 (wolframates, including the minerals mentioned above), - 5, -f 4, -f-3, and -f 2. Wolfram carbide (tungsten carbide), WC, is a very hard compound which is used tor the cutting edge of high-speed tools. [Pg.524]

Carbides (wolfram carbide [WC], cobalt-chromium carbide [Co-Cr3C2], and nickel chromium-titanium carbide-niobium carbide [Ni-Cr-TiC-NbC]) for protection against abrasive wear and erosion. [Pg.529]

The vertical spindle mill (also known as SAM) uses a central vertical multistage mixer (Figure 7-23). Each stage consists of a number of wolfram carbide pins fixed on a hollow shaft. They provide horizontal stirring. This machine operates with feed smaller than 1 mm (16 mesh) for fine and rdtrafine wet or dry grinding. The units are small and compact and can be relocated within the plant. Maximum power is 75 kW per unit. [Pg.379]

The lead level was determined according to procedures described in detail elsewhere (Grandjean ei al, 1984, 1986). In short, each tooth is split into two halves. The exposed pulp chamber is then thoroughly cleaned, and about 0.5-1 mg of the soft circumpulpal dentine from one of the two tooth segments is removed by a wolfram-carbide rosette burr. The powder is weighed and dissolved in 100/il concentrated HNO3 which is subsequently diluted by 400 fl redistilled water in a sample cup. The detection of lead takes place by electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry. This method has shown excellent reproducibility. [Pg.241]
