Lithium fluoride is an essential component of the fluorine cell electrolyte 1% LiF in the KF 2HF electrolyte improves the wettability of the carbon anodes and lowers the tendency of the cells to depolarize (18). Thermoluminescent radiation dosimeters used in personnel and environmental monitoring and in radiation therapy contain lithium fluoride powder, extmded ribbons, or rods (19). [Pg.206]

Today it is claimed that the surface fluorination of polymers using F2 gas mixtures enhances a wide range of properties, e.g., low permeability to nonpolar liquids4 improved permselectivity,5-6 excellent wettability and adhesion,7 low friction coefficient (especially for elastomers),8 and chemical inertness.9 Obviously, these properties depend on the chemical composition ofthe fluorinated layer, which in turn is determined by the chemical structure ofthe base polymer, the composition of the F2 gas mixture, and the fluorination parameters. [Pg.241]

Our results on the wettability of surfaces covered with highly fluorine-substituted alkyl groups stimulated several research laboratories to apply these surface properties to polymeric coating materials for textile fibers and fabrics as a means of imparting to them nonstaining, oil-, and water-resistant properties.
