Wellness finishes

High-quality concrete slabs that have been well finished should not give rise to dusting. Complete avoidance of dust, however, will only be achieved by the addition of a resin or chemical sealer. Chemical sealers (such as silicofluorides and silicates) give little increased abrasion resistance, and can themselves be prone to dusting on over-application. 

Where nickel is provided as a corrosion-resistant finish, a thickness of 120-130 fim is usually applied, but for well-finished basis metals and in mild environments, a lower thickness may be adequate. For parts machined after plating however, up to 0-5 mm may be required. 

Groundwater samples are collected from domestic wells on a regular 10x10 km grid. One sample within each grid node is collected from a well finished in bedrock and another from overburden.

Textile finishes that release fragrances, cosmetics and pharmaceutical substances are sometimes called wellness finishes with corresponding terms for the finished textiles as attractive buying incentives. Possibilities for storing and releasing such effect chemicals by the chemical finishing of textiles are listed in Table 18.2. 

Demanding and sophisticated customers as well as fashion designers are looking for new effects. Some of them have been discussed in the chapter on novel finishes, for example anti-odour and protective finishes, wellness finishes that release fragrances or cosmetics and medical finishes that deliver drugs. Additionally, cellulase finishing, especially on microviscose or lyocell fibres, enables novel... 

We have now discussed the main point of interest but we may as well finish off the synthesis. Reaction of the aldehyde 23 with a phosphonate salt gives the unsaturated compound 25. This is the Horner-Wadsworth-Emmons reaction described in chapter 15. Notice that the compound has two double bonds that we do not actually want - they were there to aid the synthesis and have now done their job. 

Beginning in April 1983, the water level was measured semimonthly in 16 temporary observation wells finished in the residuum (Figure 2). The water table underwent an average decline of 12.1 ft from April to November 1983 (Figure 6). Total rainfall at the study site during 1983 was 50.4 in. 

Small quantities of water were obtained from the shallow wells finished in the residuum. The well yields ranged from less than 3 gal/min to 5 gal/min. 

When chambering barrels for breech-loaders, the utmost care should be observed to make the chamber exactly concentric with the bore, and have it smooth and well finished. Do not trust to a drill or a flat reamer neither will a half-round or a common fluted reamer answer the purpose. Take, for instance, a bore for a thirty-eight cartridge. Fig.
