Wear in Operating Experience

The processing task of a twin screw extruder is to convert cold polymer, which is added in the form of pellets, powder, flakes, etc., into a molten state by applying external temperature and/or by shearing. During this process, abrasive or corrosive materials may be contained in the original feedstock or may be added to the melt farther downstream. Materials that can cause wear and corrosion are listed in Table 16.1.
