Water-washable creams

Water-Removable Bases (Water-Washable Creams)... 

These are emulsions either of oil-in-water (washable cosmetic Vanishing creams) or water-in-oil. The water content allows tiie cream to rub in well. A cooling effect (cold creams) is obtained with both groups as the water evaporates. 

The cream contains fluocinonide 0.5 mg/g in a water-washable aqueous emollient base of cetyl alcohol, citric acid, mineral oil, polysorbate 60, propylene glycol, sorbi-tan monostearate, stearyl alcohol, and water (purified). 

Many modern dermatological formulations are washable oil-in-water systems. Simple aqueous lotions are also used as they have a cooling effect on the skin. Ointments are used for the application of insoluble or oil-soluble medicaments and leave a greasy film on the skin, inhibiting loss of moisture and encouraging the hydration of the keratin layer. Aqueous creams combine the characteristics of the lotions and ointments. A classification of semisolid bases is given in Fig. 9.24.
