Three types of materials can be obtained by reaction of the organometallic compound with the metal surface  

A material in which a surface organometallic fragment is linked to the metalUc particle via one, two, three or more covalent bonds. 

A material in which the organometallic compound has lost all its organic Ugands and is present on the metallic surface as naked adatoms. 

A material in which the adatoms have been incorporated into the particle, leading to the formation of a surface alloy or bulk alloy (for very small metal particles).
