Washing permanence

Sheen and wash permanence of chintz Calendered (chintzed) fabrics... [Pg.52]

Add a known volume ofo oaM.AgNOj solution (in excess) and boil the solution until the silver chloride has coagulated. Filter through a conical 5 cm. funnel, ensuring that the filter-paper does not protrude above the r m of the funnel. Wash the silver chloride and the filter-paper several times with a fine jet of distilled water. To the united filtrate and washings add i ml. of saturated ferric alum solution. The solution should be almost colourless if it is more than faintly coloured, add a few drops of concentrated nitric acid. Then titrate with 0 02M-ammonium thiocyanate solution until the permanent colour of ferric thiocyanate is just perceptible. (Alternatively the chloride may be determined potentiometrically.)... [Pg.507]

Undiluted DMAMP, AMP-95, and AB cause eye bums and permanent damage, if not washed out immediately. They are also severely irritating to the skin, causing bums by prolonged or repeated contact. Of these three aLkanolarnines, only AMP has been studied in subchronic and chronic oral studies. The principal effect noted was the action of AMP on the stomach as a result of its alkalinity. The no-observed-effect level (NOEL) in a one-year feeding study in dogs was 110 ppm in the diet. In general, the low volatility and appHcations for which these products are used preclude the likelihood of exposure by inhalation. [Pg.18]

Textiles. Sorbitol sequesters iron and copper ions in strongly alkaline textile bleaching or scouring solutions (see Textiles). In compositions for conferring permanent wash-and-wear properties on cotton fabrics, sorbitol is a scavenger for unreacted formaldehyde (252) and a plasticizer in sod-resistant and sod-release finishes (253). [Pg.54]

The permanent hardness of a sample of water may be determined as follows. Place 250 mL of the sample of water in a 600 mL beaker and boil gently for 20-30 minutes. Cool and filter it directly into a 250mL graduated flask do not wash the filter paper,... [Pg.332]

Add dilute ammonia solution until a faint permanent turbidity is obtained and then clear the solution by careful addition of a little dilute nitric acid. To the boiling solution add a slight excess of a solution of pure pyrogallol in air-free water. Continue boiling for a short time, test for completeness of precipitation and filter. Wash the precipitate with 0.05M nitric acid and then with water. Dry at 105 °C and weigh as Bi(C6H303) (Section 11.20). [Pg.475]
