Once dyed, the yam was ready for weaving. This step involved passing a horizontal or "weft" thread over and under alternating vertical or "warp" threads. There were various types of looms in the colonies and there were always improvements in loom technology. Basically, however, the loom was an elaborate tool that allowed the weaver to hook the weft thread over and behind warp threads faster than could possibly be done by hand. [Pg.45]

The pesticide pills intended for spiking RM08 were provided by IRMM through the producer Institute Pasteur de Lille (IPL, France) which developed and patented this new technology (WARP project, 2002-2004). Detailed description of the preparation of the materials is given in the following sections. Full information on the three sets of SWIFT-WFD RMs is reported in public project deliverables (Deliverable 10, Deliverable 13 and Deliverable 14) that can be freely downloaded from the project website (www.swift-wfd.com). [Pg.339]

Actually, elastomeric knitted fabrics account for the highest proportion of commercial sportswear. The knitting technology involves warp knitting and circular knitting. The former relates to tricot, raschel, and double-needle-bar raschel the latter involves single knit, interlock, double knit, and rib knits. [Pg.65]

In the course of pursuing the hands of the silk, the combinations and fusions of multiplied technologies have been advanced in various fashions. For instance, one of the technical skills to minimize an internal stress between warp and weft caused by an effect of a spontaneous extention through crystallization process, the skill to mix micro denier yarns, and the skill to give a concave and convex in a sub-micron order for a control on surface touch is turned in. Regarding the cross section of fibers,a lot of kinds of configurations have been developed other than a trilobal cross section. [Pg.347]

The production of technical textiles is an expanding market. New production methods have also been developed for technical textiles rather than the classical production methods. It is now possible to produce a very wide spectrum of bric structures in warp knitting technology. [Pg.323]

Dqiending on the final application of a textile scaffold, warp knittii weaving, braiding and non-woven technologies can be used to manufacture the textile structure. Thermal treatment can be iqqilied to adjust the pmoshy, geometry and elasticity of the produced textiles. [Pg.342]

Finger mark n. A defect of woven fabrics that is seen as an irregular spot showing variation in picks per inch for a limited width. Causes are spreading of warp ends while the loom is in motion and pressure on the fabric between the reed and take-up drum. Kadolph SJJ, Langford AL (2001) Textiles. Pearson Education, New York Vincenti R (ed) (1994) Elsevier s textile dictionary. Elsevier Science and Technology Books, New York. [Pg.407]

Hard size n. A condition found in areas of fabric where the warp contains an excessive quantity of sizing. Vincenti R (ed) (1994) Elsevier s textile dictionary. Elsevier Science and Technology Books, New York. [Pg.481]
