Vomiting in pregnancy

A generation of pregnant women has been without access to this highly effective drug. As a result, hospital admissions for excessive vomiting in pregnancy per thousand live births rose by 50 percent in 1984. An estimate of excess hospital costs attendant to these admissions over the years 1983-1987 in the United States was 73 million. 

SAFETY PROFILE Cerium resembles aluminum in its pharmacological action as well as in its chemical properties. The insoluble salts such as the oxalates are stated to be nontoxic even in large doses. It is used to prevent vomiting in pregnancy. The average dose is from 0.05 to 0.5 g. 

Pyridoxine has also been used for a variety of conditions including premenstrual tension, vomiting in pregnancy and radiation sickness in doses sometimes exceeding 100 mg/day. Concerns that prolonged exposure to high doses may be harmful, e.g. causing sensory nemopathy, have not been resolved. 

Dicycloverine was formerly combined with doxylamine succinate and sometimes with pyridoxine in Debendox (Bendectin) tablets, which were used in certain countries for the treatment of nausea and vomiting in pregnancy. There has been a widely discussed suggestion...

The H, antagonists are used to treat allergic reactions, motion sickness, vertigo, nausea and vomiting in pregnancy, preoperative sedation, and in over-the-counter sleeping pills. 

To Cure Vomiting in Pregnancy. Mix 1 drachm carbonate of magnesia, k ounco tincture of Colombo, 51 ounces peppermint water. Take a table-spoonful 3 times a day.
