VISual Communication TEChnology

The use of recent information and communication technology, interdisciplinary teamwork, and an effective network is essential for the shortening of development times, as we have demonstrated. The prerequisites for effective cooperative work are continuous, computer-supported process chains and new visualization techniques. In the engineering solution center (ESC), recent methods and technologies are integrated into a continuous process chain, which includes aU phases of product development, from the first CAD draft to the selection and fabrication of suitable prototypes to the test phase. 

What gives communication technologies, and by extension virtual worlds, their power as spaces is the concept of extensibility. This term denotes a person s ability to influence events in space and time (Adams, 1995, 2005 Janelle, 1973). Extensibility varies for all people as a function of their class, race, employment structure, nature of their work, and their own motivations. At the same time, extensibility emphasizes the fact that humanity s epistemology is derived from the body. The concept of extensibility helps one to visualize the multiple linkages forged in the virtual and material realms. Internet technologies enhance extensibility rather than transport a disembodied mind to a virtual realm separate from material space. 

The Center for Integrated Operations (lO) in the Petroleum Industry is a research-based innovation centre that aims to develop new methods and tools for the integration of people, organizations, work processes and disciplines through new information and communication technology. For instance, lOs are being developed to improve capture of real-time safety barrier data and to process, visualize and share this information for closer onshore-offshore collaboration and more effective expert support. 

Now, pictures, depictions, and visualizations as communications are on the rise again. As with the proliferation of written language, this is partly due to technologies for creating, reproducing, and transmitting pictures. 

It is the responsibility of the scientists to share the knowledge they obtain through their research. After the conclusion is drawn, the final step is communication. In this age, much emphasis is put on the way and the method of communication. The conclusions must be communicated by clearly describing the information using accurate data, visual presentation and other appropriate media such as a power point presentation. Examples of visual presentations are graphs (bar/line/pie), tables/charts, diagrams, and artwork. Modern technology must be used whenever necessary. The method of communication must be suitable to the audience.
