Textile-based pressure-mapping systems were commercialised in the first decade of the twenty-first century. Alphafit, for example, placed the alphamat, a textile system for measuring pressure distribution, on the market (Lihenfeld-Toal and Asfour, 2007). Similar pressure-mapping systems can be purchased from SensorEdge (SensorEdge, 2014), Vista Medical (Vista Medical, 2014), and XSensor (XSensor, 2012). [Pg.210]

Based on this material, Vista Medical is offering a lot of pressure-mapping system products on the market under the brand BodiTrak, such as the Sock Sensor (Vista Medical Ltd. (Hrsg), 2012 Boditrak, n.d.). [Pg.101]

Eckhardt (22) has remarked that the evolution of biological tests to screen for the hypersusceptible worker represents one of the important preventive health vistas in occupational health. The development of sensitive and specific biological markers of early medical sequelae of harmful exposures holds promise to allow the identification of inadequate exposure containment and unsafe exposure limits before irreversible impairment of health has occurred. [Pg.230]

The introduction of penicillin into medical practice in 1941, and of streptomycin, chloramphenicol, and the tetracyclines in the following 8 years, opened up a new vista in chemotherapy. Antibiotics were at first regarded with much awe, and a completely new mode of action was predicted for them. In the course of time, though, they have been found to use the established types of receptor. Those antibiotics like penicillin and cephalosporin which prevent the synthesis of bacterial cell-wall have turned out to have an enzyme for receptor (Section 12.i), and this is true of the simpler oxamycin (Section 9.4). Many other antibiotics act on DNA, preventing its replication or transcription such are adriamycin, actinomycin, mitomycin, and bleomycin (Section 4.0). Rifamycin, however, acts on the protein of DNA-primed RNA-polymerase. [Pg.37]
