Fig. 19.1 Schematic diagram of gas-ionized sensor with ID electrodes. Controlled DC voltage is applied between the anode (vertically aligned nanotube film) and the cathode (A1 sheet), which are separated by an insulator. The distance between the two electrodes could be adjusted in a range of 20-200 [im by the thickness of the plastic film or glass... A number of groups have fabricated vertically aligned nanotube array-based DSSCs on flexible Ti substrates including foils, " grids, meshes and wires. It is hoped that the morphology will improve transport properties of the semiconductor and increase the efficiency of solid-state devices. However, problems with surface wetting and infiltration of the narrow pores will need to be overcome. Two configurations for nanotube-based DSSCs are considered below. [Pg.144]

Lan el al. [52] have reported an approach for vertically aligning multi-wall carbon nanotubes on diverse substrates treated with polyelectrolyte. The shortened multi-wall carbon nanotubes were first functionalized with acyl chloride in thionyl chloride (SOCl2). [Pg.493]

Four different aryldiazonium salts have been used to functionalize SWCNTs through electrochemical reduction. By XPS and Raman diffusion measurements, the growth of aryl chains on the sidewalls of the nanotubes was observed [178]. Electrically addressable biomolecular functionalization of SWCNT electrodes and vertically aligned carbon nanofiber electrodes with DNA was achieved by elec-trochemically addressing (reduction) of nitrophenyl substituted nanotubes and nanofibers. Subsequently, the resulting amino functions were covalently linked to DNA forming an array of DNA-CNT hybrid nanostructures (Scheme 1.28) [179],... [Pg.29]
