Ventures collaborative

I am extremely grateful to the officers of Academic Press, and in particular to Dr Carey Chapman, for their vision in agreeing to collaborate on such a venture, and greatly hope that the series does indeed prove to be invaluable to the medical and scientific community. [Pg.320]

Bets was enamored with the signals involved in musth, and in their evolution (Rasmussen 1998 Rasmussen and Schulte 1998 Rasmussen 1999). She collaborated with many young researchers in her pursuit of a better understanding of musth in Asian and African elephants (e.g., Perrin and Rasmussen 1994 Rasmussen and Perrin 1999 Schulte and Rasmussen 1999a Rasmussen and Wittemyer 2002). As a Research Professor at OGI, Bets had the intellectual freedom to pursue a variety of research topics and collaborate with numerous individuals however, she was away on research ventures so often that overseeing students was not easy. One of the authors of this tribute (B.A.S.) was fortunate to have a recommendation from his major professor, Dietland Miiller-Schwarze, which... [Pg.3]

As a consequence, relevant results can be evaluated prospectively in future clinical trials. Clearly, the success of such potential cooperative ventures depends on the quality of interaction among the leading institutional and collaborative study groups. Moreover, it is necessary to arrive at a consensus for generating tools needed to develop a more detailed uniform approach for an improved assessment of thiopurine treatment in childhood ALL. [Pg.190]

It may be considered appropriate to mention the Scottish/Italian collaboration which has resulted in the writing of this book. It started in 1965 when two of us (BS and CAV) were working in the laboratories of H.A. Laitinen at the University of Illinois and expanded to include members of the CNR Centre on Electrode Processes at Milan when a joint research programme was instituted some 10 years ago. We are pleased to acknowledge the financial assistance given by the Science and Engineering Research Council (UK), the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (Italy), NATO and the British Council to foster this collaborative venture over the years. [Pg.366]

Joint ventures may be initiated for a variety of purposes and in the pharmaceutical industry one of the more common reasons for a joint venture is a research collaboration. This then begins to generate novel intellectual property which can become the object of a potentially valuable commercial venture. However, the reason for forming a joint venture is that there is a dependency between the two parties by the sharing of skills, expertise or resources which neither has alone. The sharing of the costs and risks can make sense in such a speculative venture. Yet there are complications in such an arrangement which need to be considered before proposing a joint venture. [Pg.131]
