Vehicles journeys

Samples of lubricant obtained from the piston ring of a petrol engine under cold start conditions are very different from the sump lubricant condition. Samples from the first operating hour show substantial fuel and water dilution which cause precipitation of additive from the lubrication formulation with multiple phase formation. The physical performance properties of these lubricant samples are drastically changed, e.g.. Base Number drops from 10 to less than 2, anti-oxidancy is reduced and viscometric properties are changed. Implications for short vehicle journeys and temperature distributions within the piston assembly are discussed. [Pg.517]

Vehicle journeys as in Figure 3 and Figure 6 present a deviation with respect to the route whereas tracking parameters are approximate to the desired route in both functions x/t) zssAyjft). There are persistent deviation conditions that tend... [Pg.153]

Vehicles for local delivery journeys tend to he in use only in the daytime and spend the night static. Cooling systems can run from a mains electricity supply providing they can hold a sufficiently low temperature while on the road. Use is made of eutectic plates (see Section 7.5) and of cooling the vehicle hody only when in the garage, relying on the cold mass of produce and good insulation to... [Pg.209]

A few days later, on June 10, the US vehicle Spirit (MER-A) started its journey on board was a Mars rover which was intended to investigate rock samples and to look for water. The landing in the crater Gusev took place on January 4, 2004. [Pg.285]

Vehicles are often seen in the DMTverse, including carriages, boats, and space ships—some ornate and decorated. The vehicles are perhaps metaphors that shout, Yes You are on a fantastic journey. Travel with me. Revolving wheels are common as are beings with multiple faces, reminiscent of the multiple-faced beings in Ezekiel 1 15-22 ... [Pg.95]

On one occasion when I smoked Salvinorin during an LSD journey, while coming out of the trance I found my awareness fixating on the sound of a loud vehicle that was driving by. As I found this rather unpleasant I put on some music, which soon took on immense proportions in relation to all other perceptions. The piece being played was Hendrix s "1983", a song I ve listened to numerous times while tripping. On this occasion, however,... [Pg.22]

The key question that must be answered is whether hydrogen will be adopted as the fuel of choice for civilian vehicles, particularly trucks, ships and planes. In regards to energy density, safety, etc., the considerations listed above will apply. If civilian trucks will be required to undertake long journeys, with minimal stops for refuelling it is hard to see that hydrogen would be the fuel of choice for the vehicle operators. Similar arguments will apply to marine and air transport. [Pg.104]

In the series hybrid vehicle a ZEBRA battery would complement the internal combustion engine. This combination could offer pollution-free motoring within cities, with the more powerful but dirty petrol/diesel motive power used for longer journeys. In the 100 kW h to 10 MW h energy range the batteries would be suited to load-levelling. The ZEBRA battery is now being mass-produced (MES-DEA, Stabio, Italy). [Pg.198]

Garbagease travels a distance of about one ten-thousandth of an inch on its journey from the cytoplasm to the lysosome, yet it requires the services of dozens of different proteins to ensure its safe arrival. In our imaginary TV movie, the vaccine traveled perhaps a thousand miles from the Centers for Disease Control to the big city where it was needed—a trillion times farther than garbagease traveled. But many of the requirements for transporting the vaccine were the same as those for getting the enzyme from the cytoplasm to the lysosome. The demands are imposed by the type of task to be done they don t depend on the distance traveled, the type of vehicle used, or the materials out of which the signs are made. [Pg.108]

In December 1872 the British ship HMS Challenger began a four-year journey, which lasted until May of 1876. This was the first major study done from a purely scientific viewpoint, and since that time significant strides have been made. The advent of submersible vehicles allowed for first-hand study of the ocean floor and the water above it. In 1900, Prince Albert of Monaco established two institutes to study oceanography. [Pg.640]

Turning to the structure of the documentary, its difference is almost immediately apparent. The documentary looks like a case upon which its maker has taken a decisive point of view. Think of it as the presentation of a social, political, or economic problem. Implied in the voice of the filmmaker is what he or she thinks is the desired solution. Every sequence makes another point about the problem. The key is to emotionalize that problem through our relationship with a character or characters victimized by it. Few dramatic shorts unfold in this way. Either character is a vehicle for voice (the fable) or the vehicle for our identification (melodrama). We will have something of a journey as we follow the dramatic arc of the narrative. Unlike the documentary, however, the structure is not driven by the need to make a case. [Pg.229]
