Various determinations

Laboratory and pilot plant work allows the same methods to be employed for the continuous determination of chemical and physical properties of the distillates and bottoms as work on a technical scale [2]. In many cases, however, the measuring arrangements wiU have to be modified appropriately. [Pg.471]

The density balance due to Clasen [69] should be suitable for analytical work. It requires 8 ml of substance and has an accuracy of 10 g cm . An arrangement for the continuous measurement of liquid density has been reported by Linford [70], [Pg.471]

In large-scale work, particularly in the petroleum industry, considerable use is made of continuous methods for riscmUy determination. Such a method might conceivably be modified for distillation on a laboratory scale. Fritzsche [71] has given a survey of visco.simeters for continuous on-line operation in oil refineries. [Pg.471]

Other forms of continuous measuring devices utilized in chemical industry, such as the infrared and vUravioUt apectrografha and the mass spectrometer, might also find an application in small-scale distillation, particularly for analytical work [72], A review of modern continuous analytical methods has been published by Siggia [73]. Of course, automatic analyzers have also come into use [74]. [Pg.472]

In chap. 4.2 it was pointed out how the surface tension of the liquid phase may influence the separating process in a countercurrent column. The Lauda tensiometer (DIN 63914, manufacturers MeBgeratewerk l.auda) allows liquid interface tensions to be measured and recorded automatically. [Pg.472]

The essence of this analysis involves being able to write each wavefunction as a combination of determinants each of which involves occupancy of particular spin-orbitals. Because different spin-orbitals interact differently with, for example, a colliding molecule, the various determinants will interact differently. These differences thus give rise to different interaction potential energy surfaces. [Pg.274]

The termination mechanism in MA polymerization has been variously determined to be predominantly disproportionationlj7,b7 or predominantly combination.12 6 ... [Pg.262]

In the Raman spectrum of f-butyllithium-7, only the strongly polarized band at 521 cm shifts significantly upon Li substitution (563 cm ) (Table 2). It was assigned to a totally symmetrical C—Li stretching mode. The peak at 525 cm in the IR spectrum was attributed to an impurity, because it exhibited widely variable intensity in various determinations and disappeared in one spectrum. ... [Pg.232]

In this section, we derive expressions for derivatives of various determinants, all of which are evaluated by using the identity... [Pg.173]

SOZ, NO3, NH4 mass concentration - One-half of each Nuclepore filter was analyzed by Environmental Research and Technology, Inc. (ERT), Westlake Village, California. Their laboratory determined the masses of aerosol sulfate and nitrate on each filter by liquid ion chromatography and ammonium by colorimetry. Based on duplicate analysis of samples and standards the uncertainty in the various determinations per filter were ... [Pg.130]

Summing up the various determinations, F. W. Clarke obtained 126 920 0-00033 as the best representative value for the at. wt. of iodine and B. Brauner 126 932, if silver be 107-880 126-927, if silver be 107 876 and 126 921, if silver be 107 871. It is very probable that the at. wt. is greater than 107 870 (oxygen 16) and smaller than 107 880, consequently, says B. Brauner, the uncertainty in these values for the at. wt. of iodine does not extend to many units in the third decimal place. This makes the at. wt. of iodine 126 93. The International table gives 126 92 as the best representative value. [Pg.107]

The expectancy of rubber lining life is very difficult to predict. The service life of the rubber lining is dependent on several factors under the control of the manufacturers and the applications of lining. The various determining factors of rubber linings are ... [Pg.243]

The objects of chemical analysis are the same with sausages as with fresh meat, and the various determinations are made in the same way. For detecting certain special adulterations the following methods are used ... [Pg.3]

Analysis of these products usually includes the various determinations made on spirits (see General Methods). In some cases it is necessary to test for certain vegetable substances with a hot, biting taste, such as various kinds of pepper, ginger, mustard, etc., which it is customary to add to dilute eaux-de-vie (sometimes below 30%) to increase their apparent... [Pg.262]

As shown above in Scheme 4.2, the Rumer basis for butadiene is made of the VB structures 6 and 7. From Section 3.1.4, the VB function corresponding to a given bonding scheme is the one that involves singlet coupling between the AOs that are paired in this scheme. This, however, can be done in two ways. In the first way, the AOs are kept in the same order in the various determinants, and the determinants display all the possible 2x2 spin permutations between the orbitals that are singlet coupled. This is the convention used in Equation 4.16, which is similar to Equation 3.9. In this case, the determinant has a positive or... [Pg.86]

Liquid oxygen is a transparent liquid, possessed of a bluish tinge. Its critical constants have been variously determined as follows ... [Pg.45]

Particle Surface Area Determination Methods From the standard definitions of particle surface area, it can be seen that various determination methods are used for surface area measurement, such as adsorption (including Langmuir s equation for monolayer adsorption and the BET equation for multilayer adsorption), particle size distribution, and permeability methods. The different methods are rarely in agreement because the value obtained depends upon the procedures used and also on the assumptions made in the theory relating the surface area to the phenomena measured. The most common methods used for measuring particle surface area are described below. [Pg.1181]

Lipophilicity is an important characteristic of organic compounds with interesting biological and pharmacological activity. Various determination methods are used to determine lipophilicity. Hansch et al. proposed the use of log P [139], the ratio of concentrations of the component in two phases, more exactly the octanol-water partition coefficient, measured with the shaken flask method. [Pg.502]

As can be seen in Table 4, agreement between the various determinations of the pressure broadening coefficients is good, with the exception of the O2 result of Neumann et Davis et note that this measurement... [Pg.171]

The Breit-Rabi energy level diagram for ground state muonium is shown in Fig. 13. The history of the various determinations of Av and of is shown in Fig. 14. [Pg.110]
