Horizontal Blowdown Drum/Catch Tank This type of drum, shown in Fig. 26-16, combines both the vapor-liquid separation and holdup functions in one vessel. Horizontal drums are commonly used where space is plentiful, such as in petroleum refineries and petrochemical plants. The two-phase mixture usually enters at one end and the vapor exits at the other end. For two-phase streams with very high vapor flow rates, inlets may be provided at each end, with the vapor outlet at the center of the drum, thus minimizing vapor velocities at the inlet and aiding vapor-hquid separation. [Pg.2293]

I Calculate free water and water vapor flow rates. [Pg.87]

Pressnre taps are often specified on each side of an in-line flame arrester for checking the pressnre differential across the arrester while in service. The taps and instmment installation mnst not provide a flame bypass aronnd the flame arrester. By monitoring pressnre drop, fonling or plngging may be detected early, if there is a snfficient vapor flow rate. [Pg.115]

Establish liquid and vapor flow rates and densities. Obtain or estimate liquid surface tension. If conditions vary significantly across the tower, apply this method to each section of interest wherein conditions can be considered constant. [Pg.188]

Whether for a distillation, absorption, or stripping system the material balance should be established around the top, bottom, and feed sections of the column. Then, using these liquid and vapor rates at actual flowing conditions, determine the flooding and maximum operating points or conditions. Then, using Figures 9-21B, -21E, or -21F, establish pressure drop, or assume a pressure drop and back-calculate a vapor flow rate, and from this a column diam-... [Pg.300]

Satisfactory operation must be between the upper and lower limits for both liquid and vapor flow rates. At liquid rates below 0.5 GPM per square foot of packing cross-section, liquid distribution is not uniform enough to ensure thorough wetting. At liquid rates between 25 GPM and 70 GPM per square foot of packing, the column is considered liquid-loaded and becomes very sensitive to additional liquid or vapor flow. [Pg.299]

For the vapor pressure in a flash drum (and thus also vapor flow rate), we need a fast and tight response loop. We need at least a PI controller (c.f. the flow control). [Pg.101]
