Vanadyl dichloride

Barium Vanadite forms two hydrates, BaV409.4H20 and BaV409. 5Ii20, which are obtained by the action of excess of baryta water on a solution of vanadyl dichloride.2 They are brown, amorphous substances, easdy soluble in nitric and hydrochloric acids. [Pg.52]

Vanadyl trichloride, VOCl , is a greenish yellow mobile liquid prepared hy the action of chlorine on the oxides VO and V202 or by reducing V2Oa in an atmosphere of chlorine. It fumes in moist air, and when a small amount of water is added it turns blood red due to the formation of vanadic m ivanadic acid dissolves, giving a clear yellow solution. When reduced, it yields vanadyl dichloride, VOOI2, green tablets, deliquescent vanadyl monochloride, VOCl, brown powder, insoluble in water and divanadyl monochloride, yellow crystal line powder. [Pg.219]

The crystalline dimethyl sulphoxide solvate of vanadyl chloride [VOCl2(DMSO)3j gives in DMSO the spectrum of [VOClJsoiv. addition of chloride ions will give neither the spectrum of the undissociated dichloride nor spectra of anionic chloro-complexes. Thus one chloride is readily ionized in DMSO even in the presence of excess chloride ions i. [Pg.30]
