Monoacylglycerol in butter oil can be detected under UV fight or with iodine vapor, and the detected bands extracted with hexane isopropanol (3 2) can be used... [Pg.314]

General drawbacks are the natural sensitivity to heat, UV, fight and weathering (but stabilized grades are marketed), cost, creep when the temperature rises, easy combustion with dripping, electrostatic build-up, limited number of producers. [Pg.365]

The effect of Ug on photocatalytic activity of TiC /silica gel as a bed material in the CFB photoreactor is shown in Fig. 3. As can be seen, TCE conversion over TiC /silica gel photocatalyst exhibits a maximum value at Ug = 1.5 ms-1 where UV fight transmission and mixing of TiC /silica gel and TCE gas might be at the optimum condition. Thereafter, TCE conversion decreases with a further increase in Ug due to bypassing of unreacted TCE gas and reduction of residence time of TCE gas in the photoreactor [5,7], Therefore, it can be concluded that photo degradation of TCE requires... [Pg.329]

In the stratosphere Freons decompose with exposure to ultraviolet light CCl2F2(g) + uv fight -> CF2Cl(g) + Cl(g) and the chlorine atoms destroy ozone... [Pg.126]

Siefert et al. [136] simulated the chemical conditions of cloudwater using ambient aerosol samples suspended in an aqueous solution. Electron donors that are known to exist in atmospheric cloudwater (oxalate, formate, and acetate) were then added to the simulated cloudwater, and the solution irradiated with UV fight at A, > 300 nm. In all cases, H2O2 and Fe(II)aq were produced as a function of irradiation time. In addition, H2O2 was also produced without added electron donors simply using ambient aerosols collected from four different sites around the US. In addition, the production of Fe(II)aq showed that Fe from the ambient aerosol was available for photochemical redox reactions. In addition, the simultaneous release of Fe(II) and hydrogen peroxide will result in the indirect photochemical production of hydroxyl radical as follows ... [Pg.107]

The photoelectro-Fenton method [98] complements the photo-Fenton and electro-Fenton reactions. In the latter, a potential is applied between two electrodes immersed in a solution containing Fenton reagent and the target compound. The recent study of the herbicide 2,4,5-T, performed in an undivided cell with a Pt anode and an 02-diffusion cathode, showed that the photo-electrochemical process was more powerful than the electro-Fenton process, which can yield only about 60-65% of decontamination. The electro-Fenton method provides complete destruction of all reaction intermediates, except oxalic acid, which, as already mentioned, forms stable complexes with Fe3+ that remain in the solution. The fast photodecarboxylation of such Fe(III)-oxalate complexes by UV fight explains the highest oxidative ability of the photoelectro-Fenton treatment, which allows a fast and total mineralization of highly concentrated acidic aqueous solutions of 2,4,5-T at low current and temperature. A similar behavior was found for the herbicide 3,6-dichloro-2-methoxybenzoic acid [99]. [Pg.353]

UV radiation has been used widely in water and air disinfection, as well as organic pollutant oxidation. The germicidal properties of UV radiation were first discovered in 1801. In 1877, the bactericidal effect of sun light (contaiiung UV fight with a wavelength more than 290 nm) was reported by Downes and Blunt. In 1901, the first mercury vapor lamp was commercialized as a method of UV generation (1). Nine years later, the... [Pg.318]

Ultraviolet (UV) light UV fight is a form of radiation, effective at killing... [Pg.180]

Absorbance. The detection of substrate depletion or product accumulation through the measurement of visible or UV fight absorbance is based on the Beer-Lambert law, which directly relates absorbance at a given wavelength to concentration ... [Pg.47]

So far, we have analyzed only the ideal case where exactly one pair is produced at each passage of the UV fight beam through the BBO crystal. It is easy to see that our gate cuts out those unwanted cases when two pairs are produced... [Pg.54]
