Utility piping systems

Utility pipelines are a special case in any plant. There is a general discussion of utility piping systems in Section 12.7. This section describes some of the features which one should provide in connections between utility supply and process piping or equipment. 

Piping design The plot plan is used to produce equipment arrangement studies that facilitate the interconnection of above- and below-ground process and utility piping systems and to estimate piping material quantities. 

Pipe used for low-pressure applications such as transporting air, steam, gas, water, oil, etc. Employed in machinery, buildings, sprinkler and irrigation systems, and water wells but not in utility distribution systems can transport fluids at elevated temperatures and pressures not subjected to external heat applications. Fabricated in standard diameters and wall thicknesses to ASTM specifications, its diameters range from Vs to 42 in. o.d. 

This report is a statistical description of pipe system failures. The characteristics of these failures have been derived from reports submitted by the utilities to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The bulk of the data is from Licensee Event Reports supplemented as necessary by plant outage and maintenance data. 

Addresses fuel gas piping systems in and between buildings. The scope includes piping between the outlet of the consumers meter and the outlet of the first pressure-containing valve upstream of the gas utilization device. 

When fuel containing a corrosion inhibitor is utilized in systems containing rouge, the inhibitor films out on the rouge as it would on clear steel. As a result of this filming effect and inhibitor buildup, the rouge is broken free from the pipe or tank wall and released into the fuel. 

GC/IR has previously been utilized in flavor research to analyze aroma components in tropical fruits (5) and apples (6). While a linked GC/IR/MS system was proposed earlier (5), the principal limitation at that time resulted from the inherent lack of IR sensitivity in older light pipe systems. 

Piping system changes occur frequently within major chemical plants. This section covers incidents involving piping changes in which piping specifications were not strictly utilized. 

Many plant employees do not appreciate the need for inspection and maintenance of piping systems as well as they should. As many chemical plants grow older, more piping corrosion problems will occur in plants that do not utilize proper inspection and renewal programs. 

The damage process is accompanied by numerous microvoids, the development of which has been utilized for waterproof and/or breathable films. Other interesting segments are fibers, glass-fiber reinforced PP, thermo-formable grades and piping systems.
