The indirect liquefaction baseline design is for a plant of similar size. Unhke the direct hquefaction baseline, the design focuses on producing refined transportation fuels by use of Shell gasification technology. Table 27-17 shows that the crude oil equivalent price is approximately 2ie/m ( 3i/bbl). Additional technolccical advances in the production of synthesis gas, the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, and product refining have the potential to reduce the cost to 171/m ( 27/bbl) (1993 US dollars), as shown in the second colirmn of Table 27-17. [Pg.2133]

The selectivity of the TBR can be increased for this type of reaction if a shell catalyst is used. The use of shell catalysts leads to reduction in catalyst load, which then becomes comparable to that of a MR. The higher productivity of the TBR is reached at the cost of relatively high pressure drop, up to 5 bar per reactor unit, which limits the size of the reactor. A TBR is characterized by much higher frictional pressure drop, which is negligible in an MR and is balanced by hydrostatic pressure with zero net pressure drop. This creates a unique possibility of operation with an internal hydrogen, pumpless recirculation. [Pg.296]

Generally, force fields available for the study of dense silica polymorphs and zeolites can also be used to obtain reliable structures and vibrational spectra for the frameworks of these materials. In the past it seemed necessary to use molecular mechanics force fields to be able to predict vibrational spectra correctly, but it was shown several years ago that shell model potentials also have this capability. 0 175 Shell model potentials, therefore, seem to be the best-suited force fields for silica polymorphs. These potentials model the more ionic character of the SiO bond, include polarization, allow coordination changes, and contain only a few adjustable parameters. Molecular mechanics potentials have value in molecular dynamics calculations and allow for easier extension with respect to studying the adsorption behavior of organic sorbates in zeolites, whereas the use of shell model potentials is cumbersome. [Pg.195]
