Upon complex formation

Polarographic studies are reported on thioesters, mainly of the type (140) and (141), and on trichloroethylphosphonites. In the field of nucleotides and nucleosides it is found that ATP has a very high surface activity at the mercury electrode, which is strongly dependent upon complex formation with transition metals. The polarographic behaviour of cobalt complexes with triphenylphosphine and its oxide has been studied in order to estimate extraction efficiencies. [Pg.284]

The property of polyanions to give metachromatic reactions with basic dyes80 (see Section XI) has been widely exploited for the titration of glycosaminoglycans. Because of its high charge-density, heparin displays large shifts in the visible spectrum of the dye upon complex-formation, and can conveniently be titrated (most commonly, with Methylene Blue or Azure A), even in the presence of minor proportions of other glycosaminoglycans. It should be realized that quantitative responses with metachromatic dyes are different for different pure heparin... [Pg.62]

As shown in Figure 6, the solvent molecules tend to be ordered around the molecules and when the protein and the ligand bind, several of these molecules are liberated and become disordered (entropic effect). Therefore, upon complex formation water molecules are released, receptor and ligand lose degrees of freedom and the interaction between the ligand and the receptor is calculated. [Pg.203]

DR. DAVID RORABACHER (Wayne State University) As Dr. Margerum has just pointed out, the increase in the number of experiments one needs expands dramatically as one encounters kinetic contributions from other species in the reaction mixture. We have recently encountered such a phenomenon in our laboratory which merits some comment within this context. This phenomenon involves an effect of so-called inert anions upon complex formation and dissociation kinetics which we find very disturbing. The implication of this phenomenon is that now, not only is it necessary to vary the concentration of the buffer along with the concentrations of reactants and products, but one must also vary the concentration of every other species in the system. [Pg.40]

The very early reported allene (NMe2)2C=C=C(NMe2)2 [12, 13] can also be considered as a push-push allene and the bent structure is activated upon complex formation as shown in Fig. 34. Reaction with [ClAu(PPh3)] and CU exchange by the weakly coordinating anion SbFg results in the formation of 71 in good yields [20,21]. [Pg.85]

Overall, the affinity complexes were readily distinguished from the unbound molecules, although the relative increase in fluorescence polarization upon complex formation varied with the molecular size of the binding pairs. [Pg.265]

Equation 16 indicates that, even if one changes the cation, ligand, solvent, or any other perturbing factor(s) in order to stabilize a cation-ligand complex, the enthalpic gain thus obtained (AAH) is not fully reflected to the complex stability but is canceled in part (1 - a) by the entropic loss (AAA). Hence, the slope of AH-TAS plot is taken as a quantitative measure of the entropic loss upon complex formation. [Pg.72]

Radical cations of bisarene-transition metal complexes are produced relatively easily by oxidation (39). However, since the coordination of a neutral 7r-system to a metal is accompanied by a net metal - ligand charge transfer, the energy of the LUMO is raised upon complex formation, and the electron affinity of the complex decreases (9). Thus, bisbenzenechromium could not be converted to a stable radical anion... [Pg.312]
