If the condensation is conducted in several units or steps, with the condensate removed separately from each partial condenser, each unit may be handled as a separate condenser. For example, if wax distillate and gas oil are separated in a partial condenser, the vapors of wax distillate and gas oil are cooled in the first unit and condensation occurs along the equilibrium condensation curve of these mixed vapors. The wax distillate is withdrawn from this unit, and the remaining gas-oil vapor is condensed according to the equilibrium condensation curve of the gas oil vapor alone (Figs. 17-16 and 17-17). [Pg.576]

Product Recovery. The aHyl chloride product is recovered through the use of several fractional distillation steps. Typically, the reactor effluent is cooled and conducted into an initial fractionator to separate the HCl and propylene from the chloropropenes, dichloropropanes, dichloropropenes, and heavier compounds. The unconverted propylene is recycled after removal of HCl, which can be accompHshed by adsorption in water or fractional distillation (33,37,38) depending on its intended use. The crude aHyl chloride mixture from the initial fractionator is then subjected to a lights and heavies distillation the lighter (than aHyl chloride) compounds such as 2-chloropropene, 1-chloropropene, and 2-chloropropane being the overhead product of the first column. AHyl chloride is then separated in the second purification column as an overhead product. Product purities can exceed 99.0% and commercial-grade aHyl chloride is typicaHy sold in the United States in purities about 99.5%. [Pg.34]

The first step in E-cat testing is to bum the carbon off the sample. The sample is then placed in a MAT unit (Figure 3-13), the heart of which is a fixed bed reactor. A certain amount of a standard gas oil feedstock is injected into the hot bed of catalyst. The activity i.s reported as the conversion to 430°F (221°C) material. One approach to the study of solubility is to evaluate the time dependence of the solubilization process, such as is conducted in the dissolution testing of dosage forms [70], In this work, the amount of drug substance that becomes dissolved per unit time under standard conditions is followed. Within the accepted model for pharmaceutical dissolution, the rate-limiting step is the transport of solute away from the interfacial layer at the dissolving solid into the bulk solution. To measure the intrinsic dissolution rate of a drug, the compound is normally compressed into a special die to a condition of zero porosity. The system is immersed into the solvent reservoir, and the concentration monitored as a function of time. Use of this procedure yields a dissolution rate parameter that is intrinsic to the compound under study and that is considered an important parameter in the preformulation process. With regard to the allene unit and the heterocycle, enantiomeri-cally pure precursor 129 was prepared and then cyclized to the quinolizidine 130 with AgN03 in a diastereoselective manner (Scheme 15.40) [89, 90].
