Bakelite Co., Division of Union Carbide and Carbon Corp., 230 Grove St., Bloomfield, N. J. 

History Bakelite was developed in 1907-09. Bakelite Corp. was formed in 1922 and Bakelite Ltd in 1927 in Birmingham, United Kingdom. It was acquired by Union Carbide and Carbon Corp on closing in 1998. 

When Union Carbide and Carbon Corp. purchased the Bakelite Corp. in 1939, Kirk Brown s sons, Sanford, Allan and Gordon as well as C.P. Townsend joined the parent company. Leo Baekeland continued his activities as a scientist and as an executive, he served as an Honorary Professor of Chemical Engineering at Columbia University in 1917 and served on the U.S. Naval Consulting Board.
