Two-part formulations

Processing of rigid foams from two part formulations involves combining measured quantities of the polyisocyanate with a polyhydroxyl such that there are no or limited reactive isocyanate functional groups. Moisture is not required to complete the cure. Once the reactants are combined the mixture is poured into a form where expansion and polymerization take place simultaneously. Cure times are usually very fast, on the order of minutes. [Pg.500]

The choice exists between using a one-part or a two-part formulation. One-part formulations are based on polyurethanes of very high molecular weight that are still soluble in petroleum-ester mixtures. Two-part adhesives are normally used where high cohesive strength and improved heat resistance are required and these comprise with the prepolymer terminated in some active group (such as polyether or polyester polyols) and as the second part either a multifunctional isocyanate (e.g., MDl) or an isocyanate... [Pg.615]

Before proceeding, perhaps it will be of Interest to the reader to note that In the years Immediately following Baekeland s discovery of Bakelite, chemists tried to mix all available materials with the new polymer. In one case, for example, Ludwig Berend(lO) mixed animal glue, shellac, and dlnltrocellulose with the phenol-formaldehyde two-part formulation.)... [Pg.227]

One-part formulations are composed of an isocyanate pre-polymer in an anhy-drons solvent. As the solvent evaporates, cross-links are produced to form the polymer. Isocyanate and polyol in the two-part formulation react when they are mixed. Except when appUed to a smooth unreactive surface, a polyurethane treatment is irreversible. [Pg.303]

One of the most common and versatile adhesives is the epoxy resin, usually used as a two-part formulation which sets into a hard adherent mass from 5 min to 24 h, depending on the length of the prepolymer and the choice of the hardener. [Pg.225]

Epoxide die attach materials are available in a wide variety of forms but the main types are two-part pastes, one-part pastes, unsupported films and supported films. The principal two types are the one- and two-part pastes. A variety of possible epoxide chemistry systems is available for both one- and two-part cured materials. A typical two-part formulation would be based on a diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A or bisphenol F and be cured with an aliphatic amine or polyamide. [Pg.347]

Biirgel and Bdck patented a further development in chemical anchors. They used a two-part formulation with one consisting of a monomer with an organic substituted... [Pg.975]

Cross-linking, at high temperature, of the two-part formulations is not related in any way to the action of humidity. The basic process is an addition on an unsaturated site, which depends on the presence of catalysts. This leads to formulations that are difficult to use, and there is a tendency to replace these with silicone-acrylate type adhesives (polydimethylsiloxanes a,(io-acrylate), just as effective but easier to use. The problems associated with use do not arise with the humidity cross-linking formulations. But with these formulations, the operating conditions are neither easy to master (too much water can have a very negative effect), nor are they conveniently reproducible. [Pg.334]

Acrylic-based adhesives and hardener compounds of two-part formulations can have a strong odor and would require working under proper ventilation... [Pg.946]

The preparation for bonding is different, whether one-part heat-curing adhesives or two-part formulations are used. In the case of one-part epoxy adhesives, the surface just needs to be cleaned from any contamination like dust. Oil is tolerated in an amount lower than about 3 g/m. Higher viscous oils like dry lubes are tolerated up to about 2 g/m. In case of applying two-part formulations, with the exception of acrylic-epoxy hybrids, oil and any other contamination need to be carefully removed. [Pg.969]
