Twin advantages

Copolymers offer the twin advantages of reduced crystalline melting temperature and introduction of crosslinking sites. One of the best for. both of these purposes that has been reported so far is the thiocarbonyl fluoride-allyl chloro-formate copolymer (39). Products containing as little as 2-3 mole % of allyl chloroformate melt below 0°C and are readily crosslinked by incorporation of zinc oxide followed by heating.

Importantly, the IL not only acts as a solvating medinm bnt also as a promoter for the reaction giving rise to twin advantages of ambient temperatnre conditions and the nonrequirement of a catalyst. The easy work-up procedures, the absence of a catalyst, and recyclability of the nonvolatile IL used as the reaction medium make the method amenable for scale-up operations. 

In the frequency response technique the volume is periodically increased and decreased in square waves, and the response of the pressure measured and analysed in terms of Fick s laws under equilibrium conditions. It has the twin advantages of being applicable over a wide frequency range and being able to distinguish between independent kinetic processes. As a result, it appears to show close agreement with microscopic processes, because it can resolve the effects on different length scales. 

These two observations meant that the twin advantages of pyranosidic homologation, namely, stereocontrol and structure proof which were declared as our initial objective had been fulfilled. 

Other methods also exist for handling the reaction mixture. For instance, self-wiping, twin-screw extmder using an intermeshing has been proposed (271). The advantages claimed include higher saponification temperature (less catalyst), increased water solubiUty (271), and fewer impurities (272).
