Tropicamide anticholinergic

The goal of dilation should be wide and rapid mydriasis. The use of a combination of adrenergic and anticholinergic agents achieves this goal. The single instillation of tropicamide or phenylephrine alone may allow some... [Pg.333]

Patients with Down syndrome are hypersensitive to topically applied anticholinergic agents. The pupils often dilate widely in response to tropicamide, reflecting an imbalance between cholinergic and adrenergic autonomic activity in the iris. Cyclopentolate, scopolamine, homatropine, and atropine should therefore be avoided in these patients if at all possible. [Pg.335]

The routine measurement of lOP after dilation of the pupil is probably unnecessary. In nonglaucomatous patients with open angles, dilation with adrenergic mydri-atics, such as phenylephrine, would not be expected to elevate the lOP, whereas dilation with relatively weak anticholinergic agents, such as tropicamide, would be... [Pg.338]

Near fatal anticholinergic intoxication has been reported after routine fundoscopy with tropicamide (2). [Pg.3530]

Tropicamide is an anticholinergic drug that tends to have a greater mydriatic than cycloplegic effect. It is a short-acting atropine-like derivative and has been regarded as an effective and safe mydriatic, used for pupillary dilatation by professionals, who are not always medical doctors. [Pg.3530]

The central side effects have appeared among children even when cyclopentolate, tropicamide, and other anticholinergics are used as mydriatics. All anticholinergics increase intraocular pressure in most patients with simple glaucoma. [Pg.154]

Tropicamide, an anticholinergic agent causing mydriasis and cycloplegia, is used for cycloplegic refractions and fundus examinations. [Pg.711]
