These /V-amino acid derivatives include ben2enesulfonyl-, phthalimido-, S-dimethylarnino-l-naphthalenesulfonyl- (DANSYL-), 2,4-dinitrophenyl- (DNP-), and 2,3,6-trinitrophenyl- (TNP-) derivatives (30). Amines such as Prilocain, ( )-2-(prop5lamino)-(9-propiono-toluidide, a local anesthetic (Astra Pharm. Co.), are also resolved on BSA. Bis(2,4,6-trinitrophenyl)methane when treated with NaAc in acetic acid produced (580) as a thermostable explosive (80MIP41600). The conversion of o-nitrotoluene into 2,1-benzisoxazole was effected by mercury(II) oxide catalysis. A mercury containing intermediate was isolated and was demonstrated to be converted into 2,1-benzisoxazole (67AHC(8)277). The treatment of o-nitrotoluene derivative (581) with sulfuric acid gave (582) in 35% yield (72MI41607). 

In contrast to the behavior observed for (99), irradiation of a methanol solution of l-(2,4,6-trinitrophenyl)-2,3-diphenylaziridine (101) affords 1-hydroxy-4,6-dinitrobenz-imidazole (102) and benzaldehyde (68TL4801).
