Trichome multicellular

Trichomes Single-celled or multicellular outgrowths of epidermal cells Produce volative oils for glandular trichomes reflect bright light in some desert plants increase boundary layer mechanically discourage predators salt secretion in some halophytes digestions in sundews... [Pg.25]

Sunflower (Helianthus annuus) causes allergic contact dermatitis in agricultural workers engaged in growing the plant for commercial purposes [152, 153, 154]. This sensitivity may produce a cross-reaction to Arnica [155]. The eruption commonly involves exposed sites and the hands. The SQTL antigen is located in fragile multicellular, capitated glandular trichomes [156]. [Pg.745]

Most Nicotiana species have multicellular, glanded leaf trichomes which may produce chemical secretions containing diterpenes and/or sugar esters with C2 to C,o acyl moieties. These components affect tobacco aphids, Myzus nicotianae Blackman, in several ways, including influencing the acceptance or rejection of plants for colonization by alate migrant aphids, and the survival and fecundity of alate and apterous aphids. Cuticular diterpenes and sucrose esters were isolated from the cuticular extracts of aphid resistant and susceptible N. tabacum genotypes. These compounds were applied topically to the backs of apterous aphids. [Pg.172]
