Transition Metal Cation Separations by Organophosphorus Compounds in Liquid Membrane Processes... [Pg.181]

The transport of cobalt(II), copper(II), nickel(II), and zinc(II) from aqueous sulfate solutions by novel di(p-alkylphenyl)phosphoric acid carriers in bulk and emulsion liquid membrane transport processes is reported by Walkowiak and Gega in Chapter 13. To probe the mechanism of the liquid membrane transport processes, interfacial tension measurements are conducted. A multistage emulsion liquid membrane system for separation of the transition metal cation mixtures is developed. [Pg.10]

Separation of Transition Metal Cations by Multistage Emulsion Liquid Membrane Processes. In a final series of experiments, multistage emulsion liquid membrane processes were studied. Flow sheets for these process are shown in Figure 5. In the first process (Figure 5a), Cyanex 272 (2) was utilized as the carrier for separation of Co(II), Cu(II), Ni(II), and Zn(II) by competitive transport in four steps. The receiving phases from the four consecutive steps were enriched in Cu(II), Zn(II), Co(II), and Co(II), respectively. The effluent after the fourth step contained only... [Pg.190]

Other macrocyclic compounds such as cyclodextrins (CD) can be also polymerized and then used as ion carriers for transport of metal ions from aqueous solutions. The hydrophobic CD polymers have been used as ion carriers for separation of transition metal cations from dilute aqueous solutions by transport across polymer inclusion membranes. Recent developments of the CD polymers application in sorption processes of heavy metal ion from aqueous solution will be also presented in this chapter. It is also shown that hydrophilic, water soluble CD polymers obtained by cross-linking of CD with... [Pg.1493]
