Noyori "Open" Transition State for non-Chelation Control Aldols... [Pg.82]

Non-chelation aldol reactions proceed via an "open" transition state to give syn aldols regardless of enolate geometry. [Pg.82]

Inspired by the many hydrolytically-active metallo enzymes encountered in nature, extensive studies have been performed on so-called metallo micelles. These investigations usually focus on mixed micelles of a common surfactant together with a special chelating surfactant that exhibits a high affinity for transition-metal ions. These aggregates can have remarkable catalytic effects on the hydrolysis of activated carboxylic acid esters, phosphate esters and amides. In these reactions the exact role of the metal ion is not clear and may vary from one system to another. However, there are strong indications that the major function of the metal ion is the coordination of hydroxide anion in the Stem region of the micelle where it is in the proximity of the micelle-bound substrate. The first report of catalysis of a hydrolysis reaction by me tall omi cell es stems from 1978. In the years that... [Pg.138]

Some of the other features of this program are the ability to compute transition states, coordinate driving, conformation searches, combinatorial tools, and built-in visualization. The builder includes atoms and fragments for organics, inorganics, peptides, nucleotides, chelates, high-coordination geometries, and... [Pg.330]

Technetium-99m coordination compounds are used very widely as noniavasive imaging tools (35) (see Imaging technology Radioactive tracers). Different coordination species concentrate ia different organs. Several of the [Tc O(chelate)2] types have been used. In fact, the large majority of nuclear medicine scans ia the United States are of technetium-99m complexes. Moreover, chiral transition-metal complexes have been used to probe nucleic acid stmcture (see Nucleic acids). For example, the two chiral isomers of tris(1,10-phenanthroline)mthenium (IT) [24162-09-2] (14) iateract differentiy with DNA. These compounds are enantioselective and provide an addition tool for DNA stmctural iaterpretation (36). [Pg.173]

Prepa.ra.tion, The preparation of amorphous high (99%) 1,2-polybutadiene was first reported iu 1981 (27). The use of a heterocycHc chelating diamine such as dipiperidine ethane iu the polymerization gave an amorphous elastomeric polymer of 99.9% 1,2 units and a glass-transition temperature of +5°C. In a previous description (53,54) of the use of a chelating diamine such as A/A/N(N -tetramethylethylene diamine, an 80% 1,2-polybutadiene with a glass-transition temperature of —30°C was produced. [Pg.532]

The ligand pATa values and transition metal chelate stability constants of arylisoxazoles were detected photometrically and the stability of the complexes studied (79JlCi25i). [Pg.10]

Pedersen on the effect of various chelating agents upon the autoxidation of petroleum (a useful model system) catalysed by various transition metals. The deactivating efficiency is the percentage restoration of the original induction period observed with a control sample of petroleum without metal or deactivator. Only iV" -tetrasalicylidenetetra(aminomethyl)methane was effective... [Pg.141]

Several of the catena-Scx anions have proved to be effective chelating ligands to both main-group and transition metals. Synthesis of the... [Pg.763]

Cationic complexes of rran.s-chelating tridentate ligand, (/ ,/ )-4,6-dibenzo-furandiyl-2,2 -bis(4-phenyloxazoline), with transition metal(II) perchlorates as effective catalysts for asymmetric cycloaddition of nitrones 98YGK368. [Pg.219]

Metal-directed self-assembly of two- and three-dimensional synthetic receptors (macroheterocycles involving transition metal atoms, among them chelated atoms) 98CSR417. [Pg.270]

Quinoxaline-2,3-dithione (2,3-dimercaptoquinoxaline) (90) forms chelates with several transition elements and is used as a colorimetric agent for the detection and quantitative estimation of nickeT and also for the quantitative estimation of palladium. " Nickel gives a pink coloration with (90) in ammoniacal solution, and palladium an orange-red color in AA-dimethylformamide solution containing a little hydrochloric acid. Spectrophotometric studies of the chelate compounds of (90) with Ni(II), Co(II), and Pd(II) in alkaline solu-... [Pg.233]

The cationic aqua complexes prepared from traws-chelating tridentate ligand, R,R-DBFOX/Ph, and various transition metal(II) perchlorates induce absolute enantio-selectivity in the Diels-Alder reactions of cyclopentadiene with 3-alkenoyl-2-oxazoli-dinone dienophiles. Unlike other bisoxazoline type complex catalysts [38, 43-54], the J ,J -DBFOX/Ph complex of Ni(C104)2-6H20, which has an octahedral structure with three aqua ligands, is isolable and can be stored in air for months without loss of catalytic activity. Iron(II), cobalt(II), copper(II), and zinc(II) complexes are similarly active. [Pg.250]

The photochemistry of transition metal 1,3-diketone chelate complexes has been known for some time [30,31], and their photophysical and photochemical properties and photocatalytic activity in different chemical reactions were reviewed in 1990 by Marciniak and Buono—Core [32]. Further discussion on the photochemistry of meta] chelate will not take place here since this subject is out of the scope of this chapter. [Pg.247]

Studies in the photoinitiation of polymerization by transition metal chelates probably stem from the original observations of Bamford and Ferrar [33]. These workers have shown that Mn(III) tris-(acety]acetonate) (Mn(a-cac)3) and Mn (III) tris-(l,l,l-trifluoroacetyl acetonate) (Mn(facac)3) can photosensitize the free radical polymerization of MMA and styrene (in bulk and in solution) when irradiated with light of A = 365 at 25°C and also abstract hydrogen atom from hydrocarbon solvents in the absence of monomer. The initiation of polymerization is not dependant on the nature of the monomer and the rate of photodecomposition of Mn(acac)3 exceeds the rate of initiation and the initiation species is the acac radical. The mechanism shown in Scheme (14) is proposed according to the kinetics and spectral observations ... [Pg.247]

A number of metal chelates containing transition metals in their higher oxidation states are known to decompose by one electron transfer process to generate free radical species, which may initiate graft copolymerization reactions. Different transition metals, such as Zn, Fe, V, Co, Cr, Al, etc., have been used in the preparation of metal acetyl acetonates and other diketonates. Several studies demonstrated earlier that metal acetyl acetonates can be used as initiators for vinyl polymeriza-... [Pg.487]

Of the ten trace elements known to be essential to human nutrition, seven are transition metals. For the most part, transition metals in biochemical compounds are present as complex ions, chelated by organic ligands. You will recall (Chapter 15) that hemoglobin has such a structure with Fe2+ as the central ion of the complex. The Co3+ ion... [Pg.550]

Metal-centered emission is found in several rare-earth complexes, for example europium diketone chelates [29]. These compounds emit relatively narrow spectra associated with the d-f transitions of the metal ion. Relatively few comprehensive studies of this class have been carried out to date, but the available evidence [30] seems to indicate that the photoluminescent efficiencies are somewhat lower than the ligand-centered emitters. [Pg.221]
