Tramadol indications

One of the main side-effects of opioid analgesics, such as codeine and tramadol, is constipation. Amitriptyline (tricyclic antidepressant) and orphenadrine tend to have antimuscarinic properties, resulting in side-effects such as constipation. Senna is a stimulant laxative indicated in constipation. [Pg.248]

Figure 2 Selective mass chromatograms indicating atypical antidepressants in an urine extract after acid hydrolysis and acetylation. Peak 1 indicates mirtazapine, peak 2 the bis-demethyl metabolite of the opioid tramadol, peak 3 the hydroxy metabolite of mirtazapine, and peak 4 the nor metabolite of mirtazapine. As mentioned, the simultaneous analysis for drugs, their metabolites, diuretics, stimulants, (3-blockers, and pharmaceuticals offers a more complete overview about the clinical global situation of the patient. An interesting example is represented by the panel of substances found in the urine of a patient (11). The presence of morphine, codeine, noscapine, and 6-MAM indicated a probable consumption of heroin, but the same urine sample also contained an important quantity of methadone, widely used in heroin substitution treatment programs, and its metabolite EDDP. The sample also included fentanyl, which can serve as a direct pharmacological substitute for heroin in opiate-dependent individuals, and a certain amount of tramadol, generally used as an analgesic. [Pg.194]

Kinetics and product analysis of the oxidation of vinylpyridines showed that these monomers are oxidized by a radical-chain mechanism with dominant chain propagation by peroxy radical addition to a double bond. A kinetic investigation of the oxidation of tramadol with Fe(VI) and ozone indicated that the lone electron pair of the amine-A is the predominant site of attack by the oxidant. It has been suggested that oxidation by Fe(VI) involves a one-electron transfer resulting in the formation of A-centred radical cation intermediates, which leads to the observed A-dealkylation. Oxidation by ozone is proposed to proceed by an oxygen transfer resulting in an A-oxide as the main product. ... [Pg.137]
