Training program types

In general, little use is made in the process industry of more sophisticated approaches such as job and task analysis (see Chapter 4) to define the mental and physical skills required for specific types of work, and to tailor the training program accordingly. Instead, informal on-the-job training is common, even in more complex types of work such as control room tasks. There are usually two types of trainers within mentoring schemes external facilitators/consultants who train program co-ordinators and relationship supervisors and trainers (internal or external) who are responsible for equipping mentors and mentees with the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to make relationships a success. To make things simpler, we will typically use the term trainer to refer to both types, but will make it clear, whenever a further distinction is necessary. 

The practice exam that follows is another type of test often used to see if firefighter candidates have what it takes to do the job. A test like this mostly tries to assess whether you have what it takes to learn the job it tests some of the basic skills you need to be able to do well in your firefighter training program. This practice exam includes five areas reading comprehension, verbal expression, logical reasoning, mathematics, and mechanical aptitude. 

First aid should be an important component of any training program. First aid materials and facilities should be maintained in a near-by but isolated area, away from hazardous operations and materials. The specific type of first aid for various problems is generally indicated ontheMSDS.
