However, the computers of the time were quite basic (there were no microprocessors or personal computers, for example), and the telecommunication revolution had not even started— cellular telephones were still decades in the future. Nevertheless, the Apollo mission to the moon and the revolutions underway in both science and technology were inspiring and motivating for young students and budding engineers and scientists. 

I studied engineering but scoured biomedical literature. I did the usual engineering coursework, but carried out a senior design project to build an ECG machine and heart murmur
