Total overlap criterion

The first criterion to be suggested for the evaluation of the quality of an entire chromatogram was defined as the total overlap by Giddings in 1960 [426]. The definition reads ... 

Preliminary studies for Te4 indicate different orbital exponents, 2.12 or 2.45, depending on the choice of total overlap energy or total overlap population as the criterion of stationary property. Further calculations for Sc4 with a 3d STO produce a flatter curve similar to that of Figure 1. 

Potable Water RO and NF both play a major role in providing potable water, defined either by the WHO criterion of <1000 ppm total dissolved solids (TDS) or the U.S. EPA limit of 500 ppm TDS. RO is most prominent in the Middle East and on islands where potable-water demand has outstripped natural supply. A plant awaiting startup at Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia produces over 1 mVs of fresh water (see Table 22-17). Small units are found on ships and boats. Seawater RO competes with multistage flash distillation (MSF) and multieffect distillation (MED) (see Sec. 13 Distillation ). It is too expensive to compete with conventional civil supply (canals, pipelines, w ls) in most locations. Low-pressure RO and NF compete with electrodialysis for the desalination of brackish water. The processes overlap economically, but they are sufficiently different so that the requirements of the application often favor one over the others. 

The minimum of a is used as a criterion of the quality of chromatograms in liquid chromatography [12]. Other criteria are the total peak overlap, cp [13],... 

To minimize functionality en route the self-consistent sequences should utilize the same functional groups for each step as much as possible. This demands maximum functional overlap of the reactive strands for each successive half-reaction on the synthon. It is indeed the application of this criterion of maximum functional overlap that creates the stringent reduction in choices for the self-consistent sequences since the functionality left by one half-reaction must be that required for the next when the reactive strands for the two overlap. Overlap can be total or partial, as explored in Section 12, but clearly the farther apart the construction sites on a synthon the less overlap there can be for the reactive strands of the two successive half-reactions, and consequently the less effective the reduction in the number of choices of available sequences. This is another reason for not considering construction spans over three in the patterns of Fig. 3. Construction sites beyond a span of three are considered separately in the protocol. 

The calculated photoionization spectrum of N2 is presented in Figs. 3 and 4. Nesbet s basis set is employed in both calculations. In Fig. 3 the EOM F-space is as in repartitioning scheme I described previously. Figure 4 displays the predicted spectrum obtained with a more extensive F-space. The configuration selection criterion, as described in Section II.E, is used to identify the shake-up basis operators that mix strongly with the more limited F-space (i.e., the F-space used in the calculation of Fig. 3). Each peak is fitted with a Gaussian whose total area is given by the calculated cross section. The widths are adjusted arbitrarily. Alternatively, the widths could be chosen from a simple estimate of the Franck-Condon overlaps for the vibrational fine structure, as is done by Cederbaum and Domcke. ...
