Irradiance total

Graphite will creep imder neutron irradiation and stress at temperatures where thermal creep is normally negligible. The phenomenon of irradiation creep has been widely studied because of its significance to the operation of graphite moderated fission reactors. Indeed, if irradiation induced stresses in graphite moderators could not relax via radiation creep, rapid core disintegration would result. The observed creep strain has traditionally been separated into a primary reversible component ( ,) and a secondary irreversible component (Ej), both proportional to stress and to the appropriate unirradiated elastic compliance (inverse modulus) [69]. The total irradiation-induced creep strain (ej is thus ... [Pg.468]

It can, however, be noted that both total irradiation and UV content vary with the location, the time of year, the atmospheric conditions and the angle of the sun. [Pg.46]

There does not seem to be one definitive collection of measured data for various locations world wide, although quite a lot have been collected by Wypych [6]. Figures for total irradiation cannot be sensibly used because it is necessary to work with the irradiation at the more important UV wavelengths to make comparison with the artificial light sources. [Pg.46]

Figures were obtained for the 295-385 nm band of 280 and 333 MJ/m2/year for Florida and Arizona respectively. Combining these with figures given by Davis and Sims [7] for total irradiance in Fondon and Phoenix (75 and 175 kcalories/cm2/year, respectively) and making several assumptions, rough acceleration factors were calculated for artificial light sources ... The condition for the formation of an interference maximum at the point of recombination is that the contributions to the total irradiance at that point from all the slits of the grating should be in phase. This condition is met when the classic diffraction equation for normal incidence is satisfied ... [Pg.120]

The total irradiance is about 964.1 W/m. However, considering the effect of variations in the atmospheric conditions (such as cloudiness, dust particles and relative humidity), the spectrum is normalized to 1000 W/m. This is generally regarded as 1 sun. Photoelectrochemical water splitting is represented by the reaction ... [Pg.159]

In a typical low-dose rate (LDR) treatment in brachytherapy, the total irradiation time is on the order of several days and therefore = 0. It follows that the probability of cell survival S D), is quasi-exponential and the RBE is determined by the linear (a) coefficient, or, in microdosimetric terms, by zp-... [Pg.539]

Age from 1450 to 1850. The long-term component has been scaled to agree with the estimate of an overall increase in total irradiance from the Maunder Minimum to the present of 0.24% (Lean et al., 1992,1995b). [Pg.822]

We shall assume, in addition to single scattering, that the particles are many and their separations random, which implies incoherent scattering. That is, there is no systematic relation among the phases of the waves scattered by the individual particles thus, the total irradiance scattered by the collection is just the sum of the irradiances scattered by the individual particles. Even, however, in a collection of randomly separated particles, the scattering is coherent in the forward direction, a subject to which we shall return in Chapter 3. [Pg.9]

If two or more quasi-monochromatic beams propagating in the same direction are superposed incoherently, that is to say, there is no fixed relationship among the phases of the separate beams, the total irradiance is merely the sum of the individual beam irradiances. Because the definition of the Stokes parameters involves only irradiances, it follows that the Stokes parameters of a collection of incoherent sources are additive. [Pg.53]

The average rate of light absorption per unit volume is then obtained by multiplying Eq. 15-14 by the total irradiated surface area (yielding the total number of photons absorbed per unit time by the whole water body), and dividing by the total volume ... [Pg.629]

Electron beam and 7-ray irradiation of ground beef have been compared with regard to amino acid destruction. The most sensitive acid to irradiation was cystine, followed by tryptophan and histidine. The greatest amounts of destruction were obtained with 24 m.e.v., 200 juamps electron beam irradiation. Electron beam density appeared to be as important as total irradiation dose in destroying amino acids. In general, little damage to amino acids and thus to the nutritive value of beef was produced by irradiation. [Pg.184]

In the El mass spectra of l-organyl-3-homosilatranes286 the [M — X]+ ion (m/z = 188) is generally the most abundant. The FAB spectra of these compounds contain a very intensive peak of protonated 3-[V,V-bis(2 -hydroxyethyl)]aminopropanol (m/z 164) together with peaks of the very characteristic MH+ and [M — X]+ ions286. A decrease in the intensity ratio of the latter peak (m/z 188) to that at m/z 164 upon increasing the total irradiation time indicates that the ring rupture is a FAB-induced reaction. [Pg.1506]

This kind of diffractometry gives highly accurate intensity measurement but is slow in comparison with methods that record many reflections at once. In addition, the total irradiation time is long, so crystals may deteriorate and have to be replaced. While one reflection is being recorded, there are usually other unmeasured reflections present, so a considerable amount of diffracted radiation is wasted. Diffractometers can be teamed up with area detectors, as shown in Fig. 4.22, giving substantial increases in the efficiency of data collection. [Pg.74]

This is the total irradiance falling onto the patch. The amount of light reflected in each direction depending on the direction of the irradiance is described by the BRDF. Therefore, the radiance given off by the patch into the direction of the viewer is given by... [Pg.54]
