Few metrics have been collected to demonstrate the benefits of validation. At a fundamental level, however, the good practices invoked by validation shonld ensure computer systems are right first time, every time. Indeed, if the compnter system and its plant are already ahead of schedule, the firm could start production earlier than originally planned, and perhaps earn itself U.S. 2 million per day in additional sales for a top-seUing drug — not an inconsiderable sum ... 

More important in terms of public health than the top-earning drags are the drags that are most widely prescribed, although there is overlap between the two. Table 43.2 shows the 50 most frequently prescribed drags in the United States. Table 43.3 classifies the top 50 drugs in both tables by therapeutic class and also lists world sales of each therapeutic class and the proportion of drugs in each therapeutic class in the UK.
