Tolerance mechanism

Solid-Bottom Basket Centrifuges SmaUer-scale, solid-bottom batch basket centrifuges are available for small test samples, when the sample cannot tolerate mechanical handling or when the traces of solids remaining in a more automated centrifuge would be subject to decomposition or spoilage. [Pg.1735]

Breakdown of tolerance mechanisms. There are at least two mechanisms for maintaining unresponsiveness to self The first is by specific deletion of self-reactive clones and the second by suppression. A failure of either of these two may result in an autoimmune disease. In normal, healthy individuals, antigen-binding, self-reactive B cells and the resultant low litres of autoantibodies are not uncommon. The origin of the self-reactive B cells is not clear, but there are four ways in which they may become activated. [Pg.298]

One of the main obstacles for whole-cell microbial transformation in an organic solvent is its biocompatibility, which has led to screening for organic-solvent-tolerant microorganisms. Numerous organic-solvent-tolerant microorganisms have been found and their tolerance mechanisms have been reviewed [14,33,34]. Two-phase biotransformation systems have been successfully implemented for the production of pharmaceutically relevant metabolites. [Pg.237]

In addition to Thl cells, Treg cells are able to inhibit the development of allergic Th2 responses [47] and play a major role in allergen-SIT [41,42]. This review will examine allergen-specific peripheral tolerance mechanisms in humans and discuss novel ways of T-cell suppression. [Pg.161]

A probable tolerance mechanism behind this would be transporting TGFp by means of either in vitro or in vivo indirect contact of suppressive cell and regulatory cell. The reason for that is assumed to be a new CD4 lymphocyte clone which does not produce IL 2 (Thorstenson and Khoruts, 2001). The observed effect is suppression of Thl lymphocytes which release mainly INFy and lymphotoxin. Thus it has been concluded that TGFP is the most involved cytokine in the food tolerance process, which is confirmed by Nakamura (Nakamura et al., 2001). [Pg.18]
