Tobacco chewing methods

Another method of ingesting khat is by chewing a paste made of khat leaves, water, and sugar or honey, sometimes flavored with herbs. A tea made from the flowers of the khat plant— flower of paradise in Yemen—is considered restorative. In addition, the leaves are sometimes added to plain tea, or smoked in combination with tobacco. Ethiopians often drink a juice extract made from khat leaves. [Pg.92]

Treatment of tobacco addiction is very difficult. Dtjctors frequently prescribe substitute forms of nicotine such as chewing gum and skin patches, to help addicts through the physical withdrawal, but these methods often fail to curb psychological cravings for cigarettes. [Pg.51]

Scott et al. (3566) and Brunnemann et al. (511) reported that cigarette and chewing tobaccos differed in their NPRO levels Cigarette tobacco contained 2 ppm (less than 1% of free proline was nitrosated), chewing tobacco contained about 35 ppm (up to 40% of free proline was nitrosated). They reported that the NPRO level is dependent on proline level, nitrate level, and curing method. [Pg.699]
