Since the commercially available epoxy acrylate is extremely viscous, it is necessary to thin the formulation with a reactive diluent. A mixture with satisfactory viscosity for brush-on application contains about 45% diluent. Of the diluents tested, TMPTA (trimethylolpropane triacrylate) proved most successful. [Pg.224]

Radiation grafting can be performed with the monomers being neat or dissolved. In some cases, the use of solvents can produce graft copolymers with unique properties. Solvents, which wet and swell the backbone polymers, often assist grafting. Certain additives, including mineral acids and inorganic salts such as lithium perchlorate, as well as monomers such as divinyl benzene (DVB) and trimethylolpro-pane triacrylate (TMPTA), improve grafting yields.237... [Pg.112]

Leong et al. evaluated a hyperbranched poly(amino ester) synthesized in a novel A3+2BB B approach by Michael addition polymerization of trimethylol-propane triacrylate (TMPTA) (A3-type monomer, triacrylate), with a double molar of l-(2-aminoethyl) piperazine (AEPZ) (BB B -type monomer, trifunctional amine) (Fig. 11) [127]. To check its DNA condensation behavior and cytotoxicity, the poly(TMPTAl-AEPZ2) obtained was protonated. Due to the protonation ability of... [Pg.114]

The polymer-bound photoinitiators have been used to prepare photocurable formulations with epoxyacrylates, urethaneacrylates, trimethylolpropane triacrylate (TMPTA) and HDDA [108]. The above formulations have been UV irradiated on film matrix and the extent of photocuring evaluated in terms of degree of residual acrylic unsaturation at a fixed reaction time. As reported in Table 20, the polymer-bound BAE systems display an appreciably higher photoinitiation activity as compared with that of the low-molecular-weight analogue benzoin isobutyl ether (BIBE) ... [Pg.177]

NPGDA), trimethylol propane triacrylate (TMPTA), Trigonal 14 (Noury Chem. Corp. mixture of benzoin butyl ethers), benzoyl peroxide, and t-butyl perbenzoate were used as obtained from commercial suppliers without further purification. [Pg.91]

The results of peroxide initiated and Trigonal 14 photoiniti-ated polymerizations of lauryl acrylate (LA), I,6-hexanediol diacrylate (HDDA), neopentyl glycol diacrylate (NPGDA), and trimeth-ylol propane triacrylate (TMPTA) will first be presented. These experiments were designed to observe total heats of polymerization under prescribed conditions. The results of more extensive rate studies on Trigonal 14 photolnitlated LA polymerizations will then follow. [Pg.92]

In preliminary work (19), divinylbenzene (DVB) has been reported to be a useful additive for enhancing the above grafting reactions. These early data (19) indicate that there are possible common mechanistic pathways between the acid effect and the DVB process. More detailed DVB studies are discussed in this paper for enhancing the radiation grafting yields of styrene in methanol to films of polyethylene and polypropylene. The work has been extended to include the use of other polyfunctional monomers such as tri-methylol propane triacrylate (TMPTA) as additives. The possibility of being able to use these additives for copolymerisation of monomers to naturally occurring trunk polymers such as cellulose will also be considered. [Pg.210]
