Time-dependent semiclassical approaches

Heller, E.J. (1976). Time dependent variational approach to semiclassical dynamics, J. Chem. Phys. 64, 63-73. [Pg.392]

The models for the control processes start with the Schrodinger equation for the molecule in interaction with a laser field that is treated either as a classical or as a quantized electromagnetic field. In Section II we describe the Floquet formalism, and we show how it can be used to establish the relation between the semiclassical model and a quantized representation that allows us to describe explicitly the exchange of photons. The molecule in interaction with the photon field is described by a time-independent Floquet Hamiltonian, which is essentially equivalent to the time-dependent semiclassical Hamiltonian. The analysis of the effect of the coupling with the field can thus be done by methods of stationary perturbation theory, instead of the time-dependent one used in the semiclassical description. In Section III we describe an approach to perturbation theory that is based on applying unitary transformations that simplify the problem. The method is an iterative construction of unitary transformations that reduce the size of the coupling terms. This procedure allows us to detect in a simple way dynamical or field induced resonances—that is, resonances that... [Pg.149]

Approximations have been reviewed in the case of short deBroglie wavelengths for the nuclei to derive coupled quantal-semiclassical computational procedures, by choosing different types of many-electron wavefunctions. Time-dependent Hartree-Fock and time-dependent multiconfiguration Hartree-Fock formulations are possible, and lead to the Eik/TDHF and Eik/TDMCHF approximations, respectively. More generally, these can be considered special cases of an Eik/TDDM approach, in terms of a general density matrix for many-electron systems. [Pg.335]

In Section 4.1 we will use the time-independent continuum basis 4//(Q E,0), defined in Section 2.5, to construct the wavepacket in the excited state and to derive (4.2). Numerical methods are discussed in Section 4.2 and quantum mechanical and semiclassical approximations based on the time-dependent theory are the topic of Section 4.3. Finally, a critical comparison of the time-dependent and the time-independent approaches concludes this chapter. [Pg.73]

The equations of motion (14a) and (14b) contain time-dependent coefficients. Nevertheless, surprisingly, it is possible to find their analytical solution in the semiclassical approach for an arbitrary but real modulation amplitude... [Pg.116]
