In a research program (3,4) sponsored by another manu cturer, a fiiction tester was developed with which fiiction force and relative velocity between the test specimens were measured. The friction-time and velocity-time data were combined to produce friction-relative velocity plots during the stick-slip events. Of the several fiiction parameters which were measured, such as the static friction, the maximum drop in friction when sliding commenced, the maximum relative velocity during stick slip, the slope of the friction-velocity plot, and the number of stick-sl cycles, the last was chosen as the figure of merit for polymer pairs. Of the ten material pairs tested (PP was not included) polycarbonate (PC) had the most number of tests with no stick-slip cycles. The fiiction response of the PC was least affected by doubling the normal load and quadrupling the test machine stiffiiess than that of the other polymer pairs (5). 

The largest impact on readers is that they will be receiving much "fresher" journals as the publication time is reduced. This will hasten the feedback cycle and interaction of research groups. A second impact is they will receive materials that were simply not available before, e.g., executable programs, three-dimensional models, source code, and parameter sets in a form directly usable by them. Readers will essentially receive "more useful" information faster with fewer errors than they currently receive. 

Without diligent and sophisticated engineering research to enable simultaneous injection to be accomplished simply and with confidence, it seems most reasonable that a cyclic scheme, in which surfactant solution and C02 are injected alternately, should be used instead. Such a program can be called SAG, for surfactant alternated with gas. The SAG ratio can obviously be set to meet the specifications desired. There remains the question of the cycle time to be used.
