Tiger prawn

Of the 40 tiger prawn samples that were tested, multiple residues were detected in two imported samples (from outside the EU). One sample contained oxolinic acid (68 /xg/kg), sulphamethazine (160/xg/kg), oxytetracycline (1,270 /xg/kg) and chlortetracycline (140 /xg/kg). Another sample was found to contain oxolinic acid (54/xg/kg), oxytetracycline (170/xg/kg) and chlortetracycline (63 /xg/kg). In neither case was it considered that these residues would represent a significant hazard to the consumer. [Pg.142]

Recent reviews on sample preparation include that of Christie (70a) on obtaining lipid extracts from tissues and that of Fried (70b) on obtaining and handling biological materials and prefractionating extracts for lipid analyses. Chapter 2 in Hammond (la) also provides detailed descriptions on lipid extraction of photosynthetic tissue, oilseeds, tiger prawns (crustaceans), coffee whitener, wheat flour, spores, and volatile fatty acids from cells grown in culture media. [Pg.689]

Have you ever bought shrimp by countl Shrimp is normally sold by count, which indicates the number of shrimp per pound. For example, 41-50 count shrimp means that there are between 41 and 50 shrimp per pound. The smaller the count, the larger the shrimp. Big tiger prawns have counts as low as 10-15, which means that each shrimp can weigh up to 1/10 of a pound. One advantage of categorizing shrimp in this way is that we can count the shrimp by weighing them. For example, two pounds of 41-50 count shrimp contains between 82 and 100 shrimp. [Pg.70]
