Threaded piping

Shipment and Storage. Sulfur dichloride, if kept dry, is noncorrosive at ambient temperatures, thus carbon steel and Hon can be used Hi the constmction of tanks, piping, and dmms. However, when water or humidity is present, materials resistant to hydrochloric acid must be used, eg, glass-lined pipe. Teflon, titanium, HasteUoy C, or possibly a chemically resistant, glass-reiaforced polyester. Threaded pipe joHits should be assembled with Teflon tape. Hoses should be constmcted with a Teflon inner lining with the outer tube constmcted of Neoprene or braided 316 stainless steel protected by an adequate thickness of Teflon. Sulfur dichloride should be stored away from heat and away from dHect rays of the sum. Toluene and sulfur dichloride react exothermically when catalyzed by Hon or ferric chloride. Safety precautions should be foUowed when such a mixture is present (165). [Pg.139]

Cement-Lined Steel Cement-hned steel pipe is made by lining steel pipe with special cement. Its use prevents pickup of iron by the fluid handled, corrosion of the metal by brackish water, and growth of tuberculation. Threaded pipe in sizes from to 4 in is stocked however, cement-lined pipe in sizes smaller than in is not considered practical for common use. [Pg.976]

The outside diameter shall be within the tolerance specified in Table 4-146. For threaded pipe, the outside diameter at the threaded ends shall be such that the length and the full-crest thread length are within the dimensions and tolerances in API Standard 5B. (Inside diameters are governed by the outside diameters and weight tolerances.)... [Pg.1135]

Straight Pipe Threads These are confined to light-weight couplings in sizes 2 in and smaller (Fig. 10-132). Manufacturers of threaded pipe ship it with such couplings installed on one end of each pipe. The joint obtained is inferior to that obtained with taper threads. The code limits the joint shown in Fig. 10-129 to 1.0 MPa (150 Ibftin ) gauge maximum, nontoxic fluids. [Pg.81]

Threaded piping should be avoided for toxic and flammable materials. It is very difficult to make threaded fittings leakproof, especially with alloys such as stainless steel. Where threaded piping is necessary, use schedule 80 pipe as a minimum. Pipe nipples should never be less than schedule 80. [Pg.92]
