The NSF composite workshop included presentations on molecular modehng of the materials from molecular dynamics models to constimtive models of behavior. Also included were a series of discussions on the thermo-mechanical effects on polymer composites. [Pg.259]

Chapter 10 - There has been investigated the effect of thermo-mechanical impact conditions on destruction kinetics in polypropylene melts. The conditions served as a basis for obtaining quantitative dependencies and mathematical expressions aimed at describing destruction processes. [Pg.14]

Keywords Thermo-mechanical destruction, polypropylene, molecular mass, effective viscosity. [Pg.85]

Previous studies of the interphase/interlayer have mainly focused on the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) and residual thermal stresses. The importance of residual thermal stresses cannot be overemphasized in composites technology because the combination of dissimilar materials in a composite creates inevitably an interphase across which residual stresses are generated during fabrication and in service due to the difference in thermo-mechanical characteristics. The importance of an interlayer is clearly realized through its effects in altering the residual stress fields within the composite constituents. [Pg.296]

The triaryl compounds 290 (R = Ar) are prepared by condensation of 2-aminophenol with triarylpyrylium salts followed by treatment with alkali. The triphenyl betaine (290 R = Ph) is obtained as a purple solid, mp 165 C (decomp), which shows large thermo/solvatochromic effects. Oxidation of the betaine 290 (R = Ph) with hydrogen peroxide gives the triphenyl-pyridinium-3-olate 291 (R = Ph) (see Section III,A,2) and the pyrrole 292 (R = Ph). The mechanism of this unusual reaction has not yet been Established. [Pg.53]

In this paper, the focus is on the development of a poromechanics model which addresses the chemical effects within the framework of the anisotropic porothermoelastic model [2], The resulting model, termed as porochemo-thermoelastic, accounts for fully coupled chemo-thermo-hydro-mechanical response of a chemically active formation saturated with a pore fluid comprising of two species under non-isothermal conditions. The numerical example presented demonstrates the thermo-chemical effect on the stress and pore pres-... [Pg.141]

Thermo-mechanical analysis (TMA)26 and DMTA292 have been used to study the viscoelastic properties of bread, a composite two-phase system. The moisture dependence of Tg was similar to that of pure amorphous starch and gluten.242,282 293-295 At the moisture content of bread, water exerts its full plasticization effect on the composite polymer matrix, reducing the effective Tg to about -10° to - 12°C,26,292 well below normal shelf life storage temperatures of this product. [Pg.319]
