Thermal comfort and heat stress

Workplace climate problems can range from excessive cold through what is generally called thermal comfort at moderate temperatures to natural high temperature and/or hot work processes . Seven main factors are involved  [Pg.433]

Heat transfer between the body and the environment takes place through  [Pg.434]

Losses and gairrs of heat from corrdnction are relativefy srrrall. Corrvection is more important and cools the body rrrtless the air terrrperature exceeds skin temperatrrre, when corrvection will heat the body. [Pg.434]

In hot conditiotts, evaporation of sweat is a rrrajor factor. This relies on what is called latent heat . This is the heat energy needed to break down the attraction of water molecules in liquid water to form a vapoirr with almost no attraction between molecrrles. This heat energy does not raise the temperature of the water. In fact, as airflow over the sweat strips off water molecules from the sirrface, this heat energy (latent heat of evaporation) can only be obtained by drawing heat from the skin. This cools the body. [Pg.434]

If we think about what m affect body temperatiue we can look at the following M R C = E [Pg.434]

Hirmidity is an important factor in thermal comfort and heat stress. At a certain temperatiue the air can only hold a certain amount of water vapour. As the air temperature... [Pg.434]
