The above coatings have been applied on various substrates including Ni, steel, Ti and Au. In some cases no effect of the support has been noticed [511,517] (Fig. 27). In other cases, the effect is evident [79, 530], Steel is worse than Ni for thermal coatings [5, 519]. Synergetic effects involving the support are claimed in the case of in situ activation with Co-Mo coatings [79, 528] (Fig. 28). [Pg.55]

EFFECTIVENESS OF THERMAL COATING IN AVOIDING FIRED BLEVE... [Pg.915]

Since the fireball is the direct consequence of a BLEVE because of the high flammability of LPG, the BLEVE occurrence coinciding with the fireball occurrence was assumed. The BLEVE can be a fired or a cold one, depending on its primary cause (the presence of an external fire for fired BLEVE, all other possible causes for cold BLEVE). As demonstrated by FEM model results, it is reasonable to assume a reduced probabihty for fired BLEVE if a thermal coating is adopted to protect the tank (Pal-trinieri et al. 2009). Nevertheless, the probability of the cold BLEVE may be considered not affected by the adoption of a thermal protection. [Pg.917]
