THERM code

The GA method serves as a fast and accurate estimation technique for many scientists and engineers whose work involves thermodynamic characterization of elementary and overall reaction processes. One convenient way to perform Group additivity calculations is by using the THERM code for hydrocarbons distributed by Bozzelli [81, 82]. 

The code provides no guidance for analysis but requires that external and internal attachments be designed to avoid flattening of the pipe, excessive locahzed bending stresses, or harmful therm gradients, with further emphasis on minimizing stress concentrations in cyclic service. 

ThermKin (Thermodynamic Estimation of Radical and Molecular Kinetics) evolved (see Sheng s thesis [74]) from a previously developed computer code, i.e. THERMRXN (included in THERM) [82] which calculates equilibrium thermodynamic properties for any given reaction. Additionally, ThermKin determines the forward rate constants, k(T), based on the canonical transition state theory (CTST). 

SURVEY/THERM (Ref. 5) An analytical/finite-difference, core-survey code which calculates the steady-state, full-core fuel and graphite temperature distributions, fuel particle burnup distributions, and fluence distributions. 

Automatic interfaces with the physics codes provide the necessary 3D power and flux distributions required as input to SURVEY/THERM. Flow correlations required as input are calculated with the POKE code (Ref. 8). The particle burnups, fluences, and the fuel and temperature distributions calculated by SURVEY/THERM are passed on to the fuel performance code SURVEY/PERFOR and to the metallic release code TRAFIC.
