The Survey of a New Venture

This chapter will review ways and means to explore the potential of activated carbon for a new venture—the present discussion being limited to liquid systems. [Pg.67]

An appraisal of the suitability of activated carbon for an untried operation involves two basic considerations  [Pg.67]

Crystallization, distillation, precipitation, chemical agents, are among the other methods to be considered. No one method of separation is universally applicable the usefulness of each is related to the system to be treated and on the task to be done. With some operations there is little or no difficulty in deciding which separation method to use but not infrequently we encounter twilight situations in which any of several methods could function. Further, there are certain systems that require a suitable combination of several separate methods. [Pg.67]

A first step in a study of purification is to delineate the characteristics of the system under study and the objective sought, after which a tentative selection can be made of the method or methods that appear to warrant further investigation. [Pg.67]

The purpose of this chapter is to furnish an understanding of ways and means to evaluate the suitability of activated carbon for a new application. No attempt will be made to furnish the know-how in the form of specific procedures it would not be feasible to so cover the many divergent situations to be encountered. [Pg.67]

It is now apparent, however, that the Specialist Periodical Reports on "The Alkaloids", "Biosynthesis", "Terpenoids and Steroids" and "Aliphatic and Related Natural Product Chemistry" are not financially viable in their present book format and in 1984 they are to be replaced by a review journal to be called "Natural Product Reports". The new journal is to be published every two months and will continue to give comprehensive annual surveys of the four areas of natural product research additional articles on subjects not covered by existing Specialist Periodical Reports on topics such as chemotaxonom.y and enzymology and on advances in physical techniques will be included periodically and author and subject indices are to be provided. The flexible production timetable should ensure more rapid publication of manuscripts compared with S.P.R. s. In order to maintain continuity the S.P.R. Senior Reporters are members of the Editorial Board of Natural Products Reports and in the case of the alkaloid chapters it is expected that the present authors will contribute to the Journal. We all hope that the support we have received over the years from alkaloid chemists will be extended to this new and exciting venture. As always comments and suggestions will be much appreciated. [Pg.340]

Moreover, she is honored as FeUow of Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) , London in 2012 Bronze medal awarded by Chemical Research Society of India in 2012 International Distingnished Women Seien-tist Award in the international conference on Chemistry for Mankind organized by the joint venture of ACS, RSC and ISCB at Nagpur in 2011 Top Researcher award by the Vice Chancellor, University of Rajasthan based on highest /f-index in the survey done by DST New Delhi in 2009. Apart from this, she is a dedicated teacher and strives to be abreast of new developments in teaching methodologies and she has received Best Chemistry Teacher Award in India by Tata Chemicals Ltd., Confederation of Indian Industries and the Association of Chemistry Teachers in Nov, 2012. [Pg.1]
