The Standard Shiftwork Index

The Standard Shiftwork Index was developed in response to a perceived lack of standardization in the assessment of shiftwork. The solution is a set of scales that reflect the most pertinent issues within shiftwork research. .. chosen on the basis of being both relatively short, easy to administer, and having good psychometric properties (Barton et al., 1995). The scales are grouped into those that access data on outcomes (e.g., actual shiftwork problems), those that refer to modifiers (e.g., individual differences), and a set of general scales (e.g., shiftwork context). [Pg.241]

Human Factors in the Design and Evaluation of Control Room Operations [Pg.242]

In terms of human factors best practice it can be broadly recommended that shift handovers should not necessarily default to an overtly streamlined act. The risk is that efficiencies gained in the explicit situation come at the cost of the equally valuable implicit situation. In general, human factors best practice would suggest ample opportunity for interaction and team overlap, actively supported to create the conditions for favorable implicit interaction and situational awareness. [Pg.242]
